Record Attendance at 2015 SBEF Gala

A recordsetting crowd of over 250 guests enjoyed The South Bronx Educational Foundation’s 2015 gala on November 17 at the Yale Club in midtown Manhattan. The event raised more than $160,000 to support the virtuebased academic enrichment programs at the Rosedale Achievement Center for girls and the Crotona Achievement Center for boys.

In his remarks, Board Chair, Bill Kipp expressed thanks to his recently retired predecessor, George Austin, to Patrick Mata of Olé Wines, to the five runners that recently ran the New York City Marathon to raise funds for SBEF, and to several others who have supported SBEF for many years.

The attendees then heard brief but moving testimonies from Nick del Castillo (Crotona volunteer), Britney Vargas (Rosedale alumna), Princess Wilson (Rosedale student) and Sonia Santana de Madera (Crotona and Rosedale mother). All of them expressed their thanks to the staff, volunteers and donors who make the programs possible.

Many staff, students and volunteers—identified by large, colorful buttons—were present and were able to talk to attendees and explain the programs as well as express their thanks to supporters. Enthusiasm for the programs could be felt in the room and more than one attendee remarked on the number of younger persons who were there.

Our thanks go to the Gala Committee and especially to Dez Laffey, committee chair, for all the effort they put into making the gala so successful.
