juntos podemos!                                                                                     together we can!

Determined to face the realities of life in one of America’s more challenging areas, a group of concerned professional men and women formed the South Bronx Educational Foundation to work as a catalyst for positive change in the urban community. At the heart of our commitment is the conviction that developing the whole person with a refined sense of right and wrong, self-mastery and the courage to hold firmly to ideals is crucial for building a healthier community and a better life for youth – tomorrow’s leaders.

SBEF focuses on character development through a mentor relationship. Its program centers, Rosedale for girls and Crotona for boys, provide an environment that can best foster the personal cultivation of each child. Our participants, drawn from some 35 public and parochial schools, engage in full-time achievement and career-building activities, leadership clubs, music and art courses, tutoring and standardized test preparation activities, job training and parenting programs.

our mission

SBEF’s mission is to foster the development of young people so that they may go on to lead productive lives and build healthy families. We offer programs in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere that promote intellectual, cultural and moral growth of youth. We strive to educe from them strong character with a positive vision of the future and the necessary skills to achieve their goals. Recognizing the profound dignity of the person, we believe that every child is a gift worthy of our highest efforts and deepest respect. Our motto, ‘Together We Can’, reflects the collaboration of staff, parents and volunteers that has made our programs successful. We  have developed our character-building activities based on the fundamental principles of the Judeo-Christian tradition.

SBEF and its programs are inspired by Catholic  social teaching and the spirit of Opus Dei - a personal Prelature of the Catholic Church -  and are open to all regardless of race, creed or nationality. As a 501(c)3 organization, contributions are tax deductible less the value of goods or services in return.
